The Buffalo Bills backup quarterback confirmed the move Monday, a day after ESPN.com first reported he took a pay cut.
Analysis: Thigpen said there were several reasons behind the decision, and added he was glad to still be in Buffalo. He's now scheduled to make a base salary of $1.5 million this season in the second year of a three-year contract. Thigpen's future in Buffalo remains in question as he's competing for the backup spot with Tarvaris Jackson, who was acquired from Seattle last week. In their final cuts Friday, the Bills kept Thigpen because he's more familiar with the offense.

The No. 2 quarterback job is among several unsettled positions before the Bills set the 53-player roster Friday. Gailey said about 80 percent of his roster is already set, leaving about seven players on the bubble.
Analysis: It is Thigpen's final shot to win the backup job, and the newly acquired Tarvaris Jackson will take over in the fourth quarter of Buffalo's game at Detroit on Thursday. Jackson will be judged on his potential as well, coach Chan Gailey said Tuesday. Buffalo acquired Jackson in a trade with Seattle on Monday.
