Analysis: Royals manager Ned Yost said Thursday that an MRI exam taken after the game revealed a "two-plus groin strain," and that the one positive is that Gordon will not need surgery. When asked whether the eight-week timeframe meant Gordon would be back in games during the regular season, Yost said that he simply didn't know.

He was diagnosed with a severe groin strain, one that manager Ned Yost feared could sideline him for months.
Analysis: Gordon was racing back on Logan Forsythe's fly ball in the fourth inning when his left leg twisted gruesomely near the warning track. He collapsed to the ground and lay there as Forsythe rounded the bases for an inside-the-park homer.
